We have already behind us the second training organized within the international project ENTRAIN: Enhancing renewable heat planning for improving the air quality of communities, financed from the Interreg Central Europe program. The event took place on 19th March 2021 in online format and it is a part of the cycle of four trainings, where each training is dedicated to different aspect of district heating. This time the training concerned economic aspects and possibilities of financing investments related to the development of small district heating networks using renewable energy sources.
The participants of the event were welcomed by Patrycja Płonka - Project Manager in the Association of Municipalities Polish Network "Energie Cités". After the introduction, the floor was taken by Anna Lachowicz, also a project manager in PNEC. She presented the Association's activities to the participants and the detailed scope of the ENTRIAN project - its objectives, stages and activities that are planned for realisation.
After a brief introduction to the topics of the meeting and the project, it was time for the speeches of invited speakers. The first of them was Mr. Witold Retke - Manager of Operational Programmes Department from the Department of External Funds from National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management. He gave a detailed presentation of available support programs for the district heating sector, such as District Heating or Energy Plus. He also familiarized participants with the topic of financing energy transformation, raising issues such as Modernization Fund and Energy Transformation Fund.
After interesting speech it was time for the next speaker - Mr. Dariusz Pinski, specialist from the ZEC in Inowrocław. He briefly characterized the company and the problems that not only ZEC in Inowroclaw but also other units operating in the heating sector have to face. All these factors influenced on the realization of the pilot installation located in the Mątwy district, which uses heat pumps supported by photovoltaic installation. The participants had a chance not only to hear about technical details of the installation but also about its goals and expected results.
The next point of the program was a speech made by Mr. Marcin Dwórznik from the Faculty of Economic Sciences – University of Warsaw, who presented an economic analysis of the use of solar power plant on the example of the Thermal Energy Company. In his presentation he explained very detailed the internal (financial) and external (economic) analysis of the project. He also presented indicators related to the economic analysis such as: cost anthropogenicity index as well as cost-effectiveness index.
After the presentation of the representative of Warsaw University, there was time for Mr. Piotr Olkiewicz, representing SENVI company. In his speech he presented technical and economical possibilities of using municipal waste and sewage sludge in a heating plant and discussed, among others, details concerning fuels and technology, as well as presented a preliminary income calculation. He also suggested technical solutions for increasing the efficiency in these units.
After a short break it was time for the last speaker - Christian Ramerstorfer from AEE Institut für Nachhaltige Technologien, who presented an example of good practice from Austria - biomass district heating plants. He presented the development of this technology, the already introduced QM Holzheizwerke quality management system, as well as the advantages and disadvantages of biomass heating plants and challenges for this sector. His presentation certainly inspired people to implement investments in district heating related to RES and showed the benefits of using an appropriate quality system.
