Polish municipalities take advantage from Spanish experience related to RES use
Representatives of twinning cities: Manuel Alarcón Pérez, Mayor of Padul and Kazimierz Stoltmann, Deputy Mayor of Kościerzyna |
Representatives of two municipalities from the pool of Polish municipalities involved in the Green Twinning Project (co-financed from IEE) – Kościerzyna and Piaseczno – participated in the study tour to Grenada Province in Southern Spain. They had the opportunity to visit different RES installations in the Province area and to learn about interesting measures implemented by Spanish municipalities to reduce the energy consumption on their territories.
The study tour started on 23rd of July 2013 with the visit in the main Waste Water Treatment Plant (WWTP) of the metropolitan area of Granada (51% public, 49% private) in Churriana de la Vega municipality. The participants observed the structure, operation and efficiency of the sewage treatment plant as well as the biogas cogeneration facility that was installed in 2001 and takes advantage of the gas generated in the process of purification of water. The biogas generated in anaerobic mesophilic digestion (in the amount of approximately 3 500 m3/day) is collected in two tanks at a pressure of 25 mbar, and then used to produce electricity and heat in a cogeneration unit. The approximate daily energy production is 7.500 kWh. This helps to secure about 60% of energy demand of the plant.
