Green roofs as a tool for urban areas adaptation to climate change – join us on the seminar and workshops in Krakow

We invite you to our seminar and accompanying workshops entitled "Green roofs as a tool for urban areas adaptation to climate change", which will be held on 6-7 December 2018 in Krakow at the Novotel Kraków City West Hotel at 11 Str. Armii Krajowej. The seminar is addressed to representatives of local governments from all over Poland, interested in the subject of adaptation to climate change and the development of green infrastructure, in particular green roofs and living walls.

The event is organized within GRAD project, financed by the German Federal Ministry of the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU), aimed to initiate the development of model strategies for the green roofs implementation in Polish cities. The project is focused on the transfer of German good practices in this area, in particular the experience of the City of Hamburg, which since April 2014 has been implementing its own strategy to stimulate the construction of green roofs.

During the seminar, participants will learn about the German and Polish policies in the field of adaptation to climate change and the role of green roofs in sustainable urban development. The latter will also be discussed during the panel session with the participation of pilot cities involved in the project. Next, the inclusion of green roofs into local strategies and plans as well as into general management system for green spaces in the city will be analyzed, as well as their connection with the city's water footprint. The strategy of green roofs implemented by the City of Hamburg and Polish experience in this topic will be presented and thoroughly discussed.

The next day during the practical workshops the participants will learn how to build their own strategy for the promotion and development of green roofs step by step, taking into account key aspects such as setting up a team developing the strategy, its position in planning the space management, incentive system for setting up green roofs and living walls (including economic incentives), communication and dialogue with residents as well as implementing and monitoring the strategy.
